Honoring the Legacy of Sammie Lee Lewis

Sammie Lee Earles Lewis was more than a beloved educator and community pillar—she was a force of grace, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the empowerment of others. As a proud Prairie View A&M University alumna, mentor, and advocate for education, Sammie dedicated her life to helping young people find their voice and pursue their dreams.

Whether through the classroom, her church, or countless acts of kindness, Sammie Lee Lewis deeply believed in the power of education to break generational cycles and create lasting change. She was the matriarch of her family, a prayer warrior, and a guiding light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Though Sammie Lee Earles Lewis died in 2025, her legacy has left a powerful legacy of service, wisdom, and love for her family, students, and community. The Sammie Lee Earles Lewis Memorial Scholarship, established by The Bridge by H.O.P.E. Foundation, Inc., honors her legacy by investing in the next generation of leaders. This scholarship is awarded to African American high school seniors in Dallas County and surrounding areas who demonstrate resilience, purpose, and a commitment to leaving a legacy of their own.
